दिलबस्तगी क़फ़समें (Dil-bastagii Kafas Mein) -- Ashraf Ali Khan 'Fughan'

[Urdu Couplet #10]

दिलबस्तगी क़फ़समें यहाँतक मुझे हुई
गोया मेरा चमनमें कभी आशियाँ न था

Dil-bastagii kafas mein yahantak mujhe huyi
Goya mera chaman mein kabhi aashiyan na tha

दिलबस्तगी (dilbastgi) = love, attachment; क़फ़स (kafas) = cage, prison; गोया (goya) = as if; चमन (chaman) = garden; आशियाँ (aashiyan) = house, nest

[English Meaning]
I felt an attachment with the cage to such an extent
As if I never had a nest in the garden (As if I never had a house in the world outside)

Note: Here, the poet uses the allegory 'caged bird' to depict his state of being in love.
